BRACE is a regional charity in the South West, which funds medical research into dementia. There aren’t many charities that do this, which is one of the reasons that dementia research is woefully underfunded – just 8p goes to research for every £10 spent on care and support.
Although there are some very large national dementia charities, BRACE stands out as a smaller, regional charity with a unique role. Founded in 1987 by people whose families were affected by dementia, it was drumming up support for dementia research long before the news broadcasts were full of dementia stories and a consensus formed that answers were needed urgently.
BRACE is looking urgently for donations and fundraising, and to secure its future work through legacies. Anyone interested in helping can find more information on www.alzheimers-brace.org.
Together we can defeat dementia.
